Daniel
received a master’s degree in Clinical Mental
Health Counseling from Marymount University in January
2013. During his training, he completed a practicum
placement at Fort Belvoir’s Chaplain Family Life
Center where he worked with members of the military
and their families. He collaborated with clients on
a wide range of issues, including those struggling with
depression, addiction, couples seeking marriage counseling,
and children coping with the deployment of a parent.
Following this experience,
Daniel completed an internship with Life Christian Counseling
Network. Again, he gained experience working with a
diverse population of clients. During this time, he
had many opportunities to integrate his counseling competency
with his Christian faith to provide a holistic approach
to healing for those he worked with.
As a practicing Roman Catholic,
Daniel is passionate about integrating the Christian
faith with sound counseling approaches that respect
the nature and dignity of the human person. He believes
that faith and sound science are never opposed to one
another, but complement each other to the benefit of
the individual. It was during his two years as a seminarian
preparing for the priesthood where Daniel was inspired
to change course and pursue a vocation in mental health
counseling.
Daniel especially enjoys
working with adults, and couple’s looking to prepare
for, or improve their marriage. He looks forward to
working with a diverse population of client’s
who share a common belief in the healing power of God.
The passage of Scripture that he most identifies with
as a counselor is: John 15:5
“I am the vine, you
are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him
will bear much fruit, because without me you can do
nothing.” This reminds Daniel of the importance
of humility in the counseling profession and that it
is Jesus who is the true healer. Only by remaining connected
to the vine that is Jesus Christ can the counselor fully
act as a branch that will bear much fruit in his or
her work with clients.
Currently, Daniel
is available to work with clients living in MD via Skype
or phone sessions. He lives with his wife Kirsten in
Charlottesville, VA. They enjoy hiking, eating out,
and visiting historical landmarks in the area.
