Peter Buckingham, MA, Intern

Christine Buckingham, phd, sees clients in Waldorf, Maryland and Charlottesville, Virginia.

Peter’s passion in life has always been people. Developing, understanding, and encouraging people have been the unifying thread throughout his entire professional career. Moving into the counseling field, Peter is thankful for the many unique opportunities that God has provided him with to prepare him for this rewarding work.

Currently, Peter is pursuing his Master’s in Counseling from the John Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine. Peter chose this program because of its emphasis on attachment in relationship which states that profound healing can be gained through vulnerable, supportive relationships. Peter believes these relationships to be essential in bringing about transformative change in individuals' lives. Genesis 2:18a makes the case for the role of attachment: “It is not good that the man should be alone” (ESV). Though often interpreted as a verse about marriage, Peter believes that God is speaking about the primacy of relationship to bring about growth and healing in the individuals and couples that he sees. In this pursuit, Peter creates a supportive, non-judgmental environment for each client as they begin to walk together through his or her healing journey.

Local to the DMV, Peter grew up in southern Prince Georges County but has lived in Maryland and Washington, DC and now resides in Alexandria, VA with his wife. Peter is an avid reader who enjoys finding new culinary challenges to conquer, traveling whenever possible, and studying languages.
