Virletta
Bryant, Ph.D., LICSW is a clinically trained and licensed
therapist who has provided mental health services for
the Washington Metro area since 1997. She believes that
relationships are the essential ingredient of the human
experience. Over the years she has helped individuals,
families and couples repair their relationships by carefully
examining past traumas, identifying relationship patterns
and unblocking unwanted emotions/behaviors that prevent
people from living rich and fulfilling lives.
Virletta completed her Master of Social
Work degree from Andrews University in Berrien Springs,
Michigan and earned a Doctorate of Philosophy degree
in 2003 from the School of Social Work, University of
Maryland, Baltimore. She has provided counseling and
mental health services for foster care and families
seeking adoptions. She has also provided an array of
mental health services to people with diverse backgrounds
and unique life circumstances and challenges, encouraging
people to use their spiritual beliefs in the emotional
healing process.
Virletta conducts individual and group
therapy for women, families and children and also facilitates
anger management and substance abuse groups. “Generally,
People are experiencing a great degree of distress and
emotional turmoil when we start working together”,
Dr. Bryant explains. “By providing a nonjudgmental
and safe environment, people identify areas that contribute
to their stress and imbalance. I assist them in working
towards improving their lives so they can move beyond
existing and return to the business of living!”
Currently, Dr. Bryant is an Assistant
Professor at Coppin State University. She teaches Human
Behavior and Social Environment, African American Women’s
Legacy: Race, Gender and Class in America and serves
as a field liaison for senior Bachelor level students.
Her clinical expertise, helping women, children, individuals,
couples and families alleviate unwanted pain and build
lives filled with joy, purpose and freedom has also
fueled her area of research. She writes and publishes
about women’s issues, spirituality, mental health
and its impact on the lives of people. Virletta also
presents her research at national and international
conferences.
Dr. Bryant uses a variety of therapeutic
approaches that include Solution Focused Therapy, Family
Systems Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She
remains current in her discipline by attending workshops
and trainings. Most recently Dr. Bryant completed training
in Life Stress Reduction and Traumatic Incident Reduction.
Dr. Bryant is married and has one
child. When she is not working she enjoys spending time
with her family. She is active in children’s ministry
at her church and loves yoga, cooking and traveling
with her family.
