Kathleen R. Arveson, PHD, CPC

Dr. Kathy Arveson divides her time between her clinical work and teaching graduate students at Regent University’s School of Counseling. Dr. Arveson received her and Master’s Degree at the University of Maryland in 1978 and her Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola College in 1993. Kathy has been a counselor in private practice for over 20 years. She is a therapist for adults, adolescents and couples, and counsels primarily form a psychodynamic and cognitive orientation. Kathy finds that her clinical work and teaching are a great complement to one another and certainly keeps her current with the field. In addition to teaching and counseling, Kathy finds time to present at professional conferences and contribute articles to publications. Kathy is active with ACA and CAPS.

Dr. Arveson has always had a passion to integrate all aspects of her life with her faith. Kathy and her husband Paul were founding members (in 1978) of the C.S. Lewis Institute (www.cslewisinstitute.org) in Washington DC. The Institute is established to educate lay Christians in theology and assist them to apply a Christian mindset to all areas of life; both professional and personal. She has also served for several years as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Leadership (www.leadershipcenter.org) as well as a Mentor to fellows with the Center. Dr. Arveson has been married to Paul for 35 years and has 2 grown daughters. She enjoys swimming, tennis, and walking with friends.

Kathy was blessed to have grown up in a Christian household and to have made a personal profession of faith during her high school years. Her favorite Bible passage is Colossians 1:15-20 which describes the supremacy of Christ and ends with "For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."
