Laura Wynne

Laura Alm, MA, LGPC, REsident in Counseling-VA, CA, NCC

Laura Alm believes that each human person has inherent dignity and value because they are created by God out of love and made in His Image; the more they become their authentic, best selves, the more they are empowered, free, and glorify God. She believes that, through the power of Jesus Christ, who renews hearts and minds, change can happen, and all things are possible. Laura uses an integrative approach to counseling, and draws from person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and narrative therapies, as well as dialectical behavior and mindfulness techniques. She strives to foster a warm, caring, and empathic therapeutic environment that is client-focused and strengths-based.

Laura holds a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University and is licensed to work with clients in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree in Theology from Christendom College and worked as a middle school teacher before answering God’s call to serve others as a counselor. In addition to her experience at LCCN, Laura worked as a staffer for the U.S. Department of Defense Safe Helpline, a 24/7 hotline managed by the DoD Sexual Assault and Prevention Response Office and RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, where she provided crisis support for survivors of sexual assault and abuse.

Laura is experienced helping individuals with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, psychological/emotional abuse or abuse history, self-worth issues, PTSD, trauma (including sexual trauma and military sexual trauma, or MST), and spiritual concerns. She is also interested and active in advocating for human rights issues, as well as understanding her clients holistically, recognizing that we all have unique and diverse environmental, social, spiritual, physical, and emotional backgrounds and needs.

Laura is also certified as a Credentialed Advocate at the Provisional level through the National Organization for Victim Assistance. As a Credentialed Advocate (CA), Laura has met the standardized NACP training requirements to provide compassionate support to victims of crime, and she is mindful of the unique psychological and systemic needs of survivors while connecting them with appropriate resources and services.

“And he who sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” - Revelation 21:5
