Peter J. Buckingham, MA, LCPC, LGPC, Resident in Counseling-VA, NCC

Peter’s passion in life has always been people. Developing, understanding, and encouraging people have been the unifying thread throughout his entire professional career. Moving into the counseling field, he is thankful for the many unique opportunities that God has provided him with to prepare him for this rewarding work.

Peter earned his Master’s in Counseling from the John Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine and chose this program because of its emphasis on attachment in relationship, which he believes is an essential element in healing change for individuals. Genesis 2:18a makes the case for the role of attachment: “It is not good that the man should be alone” (ESV). Though often interpreted as a verse about marriage, Peter believes that God is speaking about the transformative role of relationship in the growth and healing of the individuals and couples that he sees. In this pursuit, Peter creates a supportive, non-judgmental environment for each client as they begin to walk together through his or her healing journey.

Local to the DMV, Peter grew up in Southern Maryland but has lived in Maryland, Washington, DC, and now resides in Alexandria with his wife and young son. Peter is an avid reader who enjoys cooking and travel whenever possible.
